New School year!
In Nepal, the new school year begins at the end of April. This is always a busy and impactful time of year for us at ECC. All our our partner classrooms need to be restocked with materials. Without our support, students would be studying without access to even the basics like pencils and notebooks. Bringing these materials at the start of the school year, means the difference between learning to read and write or wasting another year in the classroom.
Our hardworking team visited each school to bring materials to classes and teachers. All classes received: Individual whiteboard, markers, student notebooks, pencils, crayons and markers, meta cards, workbooks and chart paper. We gave out more than 2,000 notebooks, 700 packs of pencils, and 1,500 whiteboard markers.
Our students are always thrilled with their new materials at the start of the year. It also is such a relief to teachers to know they have what they need in the classroom to be able to teach. Imagine stepping into class and having nothing to use to teach your students with?
Thank you to all the donors who made our start of the year material distribution possible!
All student receive ECC workbooks. These are full of worksheets designed by our team of educators. We have different workbooks for each grade and it follows along with the textbook curriculum for math, English, and Nepali subjects.
These workbooks are a huge help to teachers. Without access to technology or resources to make their own worksheets, it allows them to give students extra practice on concepts learned in class.
The content within each workbook varies greatly. In the preschool workbooks, students are coloring in pictures of their family and tracing Nepali letter, while the 3rd graders are finish dialogue in English and 5th graders are using descriptive adjectives in a story.
What an incredible resource for teachers and students!
In addition to distributing school supplies, the start of the school year also means our libraries are reopening for the year!
We now have 5 libraries open in 5 different schools. In each library, we have hired a full time librarian. These are young people from the local community who want to help children and are in need of employment. The librarians run daily library classes by grade. In each class, they spending time reading, listening, writing, and talking.
The main goal of our library program is to ensure each student gets an hour a day of interactive education and to build their early literacy skills. In schools where many 5th graders are still illiterate, this program is so vital.
Welcome back to all librarians and students. We hope you have a great new academic year,!
