Immediate Relief: Migrants in Quarantine
Nepal is facing a crisis.
Thousands of Nepali migrant workers are finally being allowed to return home from India. Without daily work during lockdown, they could no longer support themselves as migrant workers.
Their journey has been long and difficult and all they want is to return to their families and villages. However, their return also increases the risk of COVID infections in these rural communities without many resources.
The government has given the empty schools as quarantine areas for these returning migrants.
In the 3 schools of our main project site, there are 283 people in quarantine. They don’t have access to many facilities or basic hygiene products.
While this is not what ECC *normally* does, we love our project community and are committed to helping them in any way possible.
So last week we hired locals to assemble some basic need packs for those 283 people in quarantine. These packs included biscuits, toothbrush and paste, soap. and household disinfectant. We also provided tea and sugar for all those in quarantine to share.
Our community was so incredibly grateful.
Our local coordinators reported that many were very emotional when receiving their packs. Though it is a small gesture, it is a meaningful one.
